The Win-Win Charity Lotto was launched by the lottery betting giant Lottoland in May 2020. It’s important to note here that Lottoland is a ‘bet-on-jackpot’ operator, not a lottery.

What exactly does this mean to you, the end user? You still place your £1 bet and you are still in for a chance of winning the jackpot (in the case of the Win-Win Lotto that’s £250,000). That sounds very similar to say the UK National Lottery or Health Lottery right?

There are two important differences to consider. Firstly, the jackpot is an ‘insured jackpot’ rather than a percentage of ticket sales - read more about insured jackpots here. Secondly, the type of gambling license used by bet-on-jackpot providers is a ‘General betting’ license as opposed to a lottery license. Lottery licenses are only available in the UK if the lottery is raising money for good causes - in the words of the Gambling Commission "Lotteries can only be run for good causes and cannot be run for commercial gain". Read more about bet-on-jackpot providers here.

So, say you played the National Lottery then 28% of your money goes directly to good causes. If you were to bet on the Irish Lottery at Lottoland then 0% of your money goes to good causes. See this table for more information on good causes.

With the launch of the Win-Win Charity Lotto, Lottoland may be hoping to attract customers that are put off by the fact that their bets at Lottoland aren’t contributing to charity. They may also have the genuine desire to give some of their profits back to good causes. It costs just £1 per line, which is in-keeping with the other charity lotteries and 20% of the £1 goes to good causes.

Lottoland have chosen a range of charities to support - British Red Cross, Marine Conservation Society, Keep Britain Tidy and Hospice UK. Something for everyone to get behind.

Drawn three times per week and with a jackpot of £250,000, it’s both more frequent and has a larger jackpot than the majority of other charity lotteries featured.

In our opinion this is a great Lotto betting game and another great innovation from Lottoland. We love that this is keeping the spirit of lottery by raising money for good causes and we love that Lottoland are continuing to innovate the lottery betting industry.
