Online lotto ticket sales continue to grow as states start to launch online and dedicated online companies like Jackpocket spring up - and it's hardly surprising.
User journeys are optimised to ensure a smooth, enjoyable experience - making it easier than ever for jackpot-hunters to get their numbers on from wherever they are on the move.
Banking technologies are more advanced and plentiful, offering up a better range of payment solutions.
There are plenty of positive reasons to play lotto on mobile - but what of buying tickets in-store, a tradition to many an American citizen? There may be a physical thrill to holding your ticket, but a story out of California should send shudders down the spines of all regular players that pick their numbers in stores rather than online!
An unnamed woman from California accidentally washed a winning lotto ticket worth $26million as part of a big pile of laundry.
The lucky-then-luckless woman aged in her 40s purchased a SuperLotto Plus ticket from an ARCO am/pm convenience store on East Imperial Highway in Norwalk before the fateful draw on November 20.
The store manager, a man named Frank, confirmed to Los Angeles news agency KTLA that he reviewed the store's surveillance footage and could prove the woman bought a ticket at the same time and date on which the winning ticket was purchased.
Devastatingly, though, the lotto ruled this didn't substantiate enough evidence for the woman to claim her winnings. California Lottery terms and conditions stipulate that a winner must present their ticket to file a claim, or - should a player lose their ticket - they must prove they owned it in the first place, like a photo of either side of the lotto slip.
The anonymous woman failed to provide evidence of either - and missed out on a life-changing amount of money.
If ever there was a reason to buy your lotto tickets online, where each transaction is easily identifiable and traceable, the above story is one!
