The Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals is the UK's leading veterinary charity, providing free and low-cost treatment to pets in need. It was founded in 1917 by Maria Dickin to provide care for sick and injured animals of the poor. The PDSA operates through a UK-wide network of 48 pet hospitals and 380 pet practices. They provide veterinary care to the sick and injured pets of people in need whilst also promoting responsible pet ownership. Saving, protecting and healing pets is the charities goal and they do this by educating owners, preventing disease and carrying out lifesaving operations.
