What are the Luckiest Numbers in the Lotto?

We all know the lottery is simply down to statistics and probability, right? Well that is definitely true, but what is also a fact is that certain numbers appear to defy the statistical probabilities and be drawn more than others.

In a recent article in the Daily Mail, these numbers were referred to as the ‘luckiest' numbers. They quoted research conducted by Jackpot, analysing a year of more than 1,500 draws from 15 international lotteries including Irish Lotto, EuroMillions, UK Lotto and US Powerball.

The 'luckiest' number leader board was topped by ball 16, which was drawn a whopping 191 times in the last 12 months!

The 'Luckiest' Lotto Number Top 5 Leaderboard

  • 16 - drawn 191 times
  • 22 - drawn 179 times
  • 28 - drawn 167 times
  • 37 - drawn 167 times
  • 6 - drawn 166 times

Conversely the unluckiest number was poor old 36, which was only drawn 8 times in the last year. This means that Number 16 was almost x24 times more lucky than Number 36!

The 'Unluckiest' Lotto Losers Bottom 5

  • 46 - drawn only five times
  • 40 - drawn only six times
  • 41 - drawn only seven times
  • 32 - drawn only eight times
  • 36 - drawn only eight times

How can I use this Lotto Leaderboard to get lucky myself?

These numbers may have been be drawn more but that doesn't necessarily mean they were drawn together in the same draw. So if you're buying a ticket and have to choose 6 numbers and want them to be a ‘lucky' combination the leaderboard might not be useful.

Richard Lloyd, an analyst based in Britain, revealed in March 2017 that if you had chosen the numbers 03 06 13 23 27 49 in every draw since the UK Lotto started, you would have collected over two million pounds in prize money.

What about if I bet on the Lotto with online bookmakers?

One of the reasons people love betting on the lotto is that you can choose how many balls you want to bet on. So if you wanted, you could just bet on the Number 16 being drawn every week in the Irish Lotto with Betfred or bet365. Every time that 16 ball stayed lucky and was drawn, you would win 6 times your stake:

£10 Stake = £60 winnings plus your £10 Stake
