When it's not your day, it's not your day! A mantra that's fine for almost any other circumstance, but for one unfortunate couple of students from the UK that missed out on a £182million Euromillions jackpot due to a banking mishap, "it's not your day" feels like a gigantic understatement.
Rachel Kennedy and her boyfriend Liam McCrohan were over the moon when their regular numbers 6, 12, 22, 29, and 33, with Lucky Stars 6 and 11, rolled out of the Euromillions draw on Friday, February 26th. However, their glee turned to devastation when the tickets, usually debited automatically from Ms. Kennedy's online account, failed to go through due to lack of funds.
To make matters worse, they were greeted with a message via their EuroMillions app, suggesting their numbers had done the business, adding confusion and further trauma to the drama.
Mr. McCrohan, an economics student, was already breaking down how they would spend the money and share their newfound fortune before he got the gut wrenching news. Upon finding out, the devastated boyfriend managed to grin through the grit with some classic dry humour. Posting an image of the failed lottery ticket to 120 followers on Twitter with the caption "When your Mrs. decides to not play the EuroMillions... and all 7 of her usual numbers come up" - the Tweet racked up over 30,000 likes within 48 hours.

The phantom winning numbers were drawn from a random number generator by Ms. Kennedy, who has vowed never to use them again, branding them unlucky.
"I've never won anything before," she said. "We've just got the worst luck when it comes to stuff like this."
Don't do a Ms. Kennedy! It's always worth checking your lotto numbers to avoid the heartache!
It got us thinking - are there any other bad luck stories out there that can compare? The pickings were slim - but there were some strong contenders.
In 2015, Annie Power was the last of a Willie Mullins/Ruby Walsh trainer/jockey bandwagon on the final day at Cheltenham. Gamblers around the country watched the race with heart in mouths - all it would take is for the gifted jolly to waltz its way to wallet-filling glory in the Mares Hurdle to handsomely reward favourite backers around the nation!
You know the rest...it fell at the final hurdle...costing punters millions!
Every Christmas in Spain, the El Gordo lottery takes place. It's a tradition that harks back to 1812, and in 2011, the jackpot reached over €900million - one of the largest ever sums. The residents of the sleepy village of Sodeto each agreed to partake in a syndicate at €25 a ticket - all apart from one man. Filmmaker Costis Mitsotakis was too busy renovating an old barn house in the countryside and missed out on a minimum prize of €120,00. The worse part? He had to watch the whole village take to the streets in celebration! Fortunately, he turned a negative into a positive by making a documentary of the event.
One important message we’d like to reiterate at ComparetheLotto.com - please always play and bet responsibly. It is always a good idea to set budgets and stick to them using tools like deposit limits where available. We strongly believe that lottery playing and betting should only ever be done as a fun pastime. If you aren’t enjoying it, we recommend you stop.
