Nifty Fifty is a catchy term that has regularly popped up in modern culture. Indeed, most recently it made news after being revealed as the name of a new numbers betting game available at leading bookmaker, Betfred.
But Nifty Fifty has come to mean several different things too, over the years.
For starters, the “Nifty Fifty” (styled as “Nifty 50”) was an informal term for 50 popular large cap stocks that were available on the New York Stock Exchanges in the sixties and seventies, which were considered to be strong buy and hold stocks (more commonly referred to as Blue-Chip stocks these days). Even half a century later, many of these companies are still thriving today, including the likes of Black & Decker, The Coca-Cola Company, Gillette, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, PepsiCo, McDonalds, The Walt Disney Company and Walmart amongst the household names.
But Nifty Fifty’s fame doesn’t end with investment. Many avid photographers also refer to a fast 50mm camera lens as a “Nifty Fifty” for obvious reasons.
And now, there is a whole new meaning to Nifty Fifty thanks to Betfred, who created their new numbers betting game using this very catchy name in May 2020.
Officially referred to as a numbers betting game rather than a lotto, Nifty Fifty is a new draw that takes place three times every day. The draw, as you might have guessed, has 50 numbers with players at Betfred able to bet on which numbers they think will be drawn.
Each Nifty Fifty draw has six numbers drawn, plus one bonus ball. Players can choose to bet on one, two, three, four or five balls, with greater odds being given the more balls they pick. Unlike in a standard lotto, players need to match all of the numbers they picked in order to win on a numbers betting game like this one.
Total Balls | Odds |
1 Ball | 7/1 |
2 Balls | 70/1 |
3 Balls | 800/1 |
4 Balls | 10,000/1 |
5 Balls | 200,000/1 |
There are several advantages to number betting games like Nifty Fifty. The biggest of which is that you really get to customise your bet. You get to choose how many numbers you want to bet on (and therefore control your odds), while also deciding how much you want to bet (and therefore potentially win).
Nifty Fifty is exclusively available to bet on at Betfred, where you’ll also be able to watch all the Nifty Fifty results being drawn live. Nifty Fifty takes place three times daily, with draws at 11:30, 14:30 and 18:30.
If you’d like to give Nifty Fifty a try, you may also be eligible for a special bonus if you don’t already have a Betfred account...
