A man who had been rushed to the hospital for an emergency heart operation awoke to two pieces of great news. Firstly, the operation had been a success. Secondly, his wife's lucky numbers on the 49's had scooped them a cool £25,000!
Peter Smith, a retired carpenter from Kent, was over the moon on hearing the news from spouse Winnie, just hours after having stents fitted in his heart.
Mrs Smith had placed a 50p bet at a shop on Blackfen Road in Sidcup on Friday before Mr Smith fell ill. She picked the numbers that are most significant to her. The lucky digits 2, 8, 13, 24, and 32, are all based on family birthdays and anniversary dates.
The gobsmacking story doesn't stop there - the massive 49's windfall landed on the same year as the couple's Golden Anniversary. Mrs Smith told Betfred that she plans on splashing out to mark the occasion:
"It was the best news we could have had. We've got more money now for our new conservatory at home, and enough to pay for the very best big holiday next year when it is our golden wedding anniversary."
The couple, who have two children and three grandchildren, hope to be jetting off to the Caribbean or the Maldives some time next year!
