After working in the gambling industry for over a decade, Oliver spotted an opportunity to setup a resource for lottery bettors. CompareTheLotto.com was founded in 2014, with Bet49s.com and Bet49s.co.za following shortly after. The aim is to find the best odds, offers and information for lottery bettors.

There are two things CompareTheLotto.com users love:
Today, we’re going to focus on both of these points combined. Let’s get started...
The first point to make crystal clear is the difference between value and probability in relation to Lottery Betting.
Often the odds are only slightly different - for example, betting on 2 balls on the Irish Lotto is 38/1 at Ladbrokes or 40/1 at William Hill - this doesn’t seem worth worrying about, right? Well, gambling is a game of margins and any way to increase your margin can average itself out over the long run. Plenty of Lottery bettors bet on lotto multiple times per week - slightly better odds can really add up over the long run.
We’ve always maintained our lotto odds tables with the latest bookmaker odds, however, we’ve never colour-coded it with value until now. We wanted to make it super simple and straightforward for you to be able to look at the odds tables and see the best value bookmaker in an instant. So, we’ve colour-coded Green = Best Odds, Orange = Average Odds, Red = Poor Odds.
Let’s take a look at the Irish and 49’s odds tables now to see how they compare:
Betfred are best odds or equal best odds for every single bet. Which, as a lottery betting customer, this is fantastic to know - you can put all of your bets on at Betfred without needing to worry about changing bookmakers to find better value.
We know from talking to Betfred that this is their aim. Betfred aim to always match the best lottery betting odds even if these are enhanced by other bookmakers.
In short, the difference between the best odds and worst odds offered by bookmakers is the margin the bookmaker earns. If a bookmaker offers better odds they earn less margin on your lotto bet - in other words, Betfred will earn less for your lotto bet than say William Hill would. Bookmakers increase their odds and lower their margins to get more customers.
If you’re a new customer, you can also get the additional value of sign-up bonuses. We’ve highlighted on our odds tables which bookmakers have sign-up offers and which don’t (currently, only three do).
Betfred’s current sign-up offer is:
