The winners of the massive El Gordo jackpot have been revealed!
Translated to the "Fat One" in English, the winning number from this year's Spanish Christmas Lottery was 72897 - which was announced via two singing children from San Ildefenso school as per the quirky tradition.
The Spanish Christmas Lottery is a festive national staple every year - given the number of players eligible for a serious wad of cash and the relatively high odds of winning the top prize. Every lottery ticket number is divided into ten identical segments or a "decimo" - each costing €20 - making it impossible for one person to buy them all. The numbers are also broken down into series - this year's event saw 1,600 tickets with the same number sold at 20 locations across the country.
Holders of the €20 "decimo" would have bagged a whopping €400,000! The second and third prize numbers were 06095 and 52472, landing prizes of €125,000 and €50,000 for each winning décimo, respectively.
El Gordo gave away a whopping €2.4billion in prizes over the festive period - that's €28million more than last year!
Head to Lottoland for betting on the outcome of the El Nino Lottery draw, taking place in Madrid on 6th January. You can bet on the outcome of the draw by picking a number between 0 and 99,999 - if it comes in, you could land a top prize estimated at €2,000,000, depending on how many shares you’ve bought.
Much like El Gordo, the odds of landing the top prize roll in at a generous 1 in 100,000, giving you a much better chance when comparing against other lotteries.
Prices start at £4.99 for a 1/100th share but there are discounts (depending on how many shares you buy) up to the top 50% discount for a full share, which costs £249.99. Please only ever bet what you can afford to lose and always gamble responsibly.
El Niño’s big prize is a huge €2,000,000 (approx. £1,700,000), with further 2nd and 3rd prizes of €750,000 (approx. £646,000) and €250,000 (approx. £215,000).
There are also another 37,000 prizes up for grabs - meaning players have an impressive 1-in-3 chance of getting a payout!
Previously, this draw was only available to Spanish citizens, but Lottoland has opened up El Nino to its customers by allowing you to bet on the outcome of the draw.
