The 53-year-old picked his lucky numbers based on the birthdays... of his four cocker spaniels! His winning numbers – 4, 9, 22 and 30 – represent the days of the month his beloved pooches were born.

“I know it sounds stupid, but I picked those numbers 10 years ago and have used them on the Irish Lotto and other lotteries – and now thankfully on The Nifty Fifty. I won £800 on The Nifty Fifty the day before – and now I’ve landed £10,000 – which is absolutely brilliant,” revealed the big winner.

And Betfred owner, Fred Done, couldn’t believe it when he heard, “I bet this fella is cock-a-hoop! It is astonishing how people pick their numbers, often based on family birthdays but not necessarily those of much-loved spaniels!”
